Choosing You: The First Step in Transforming Your Life

Writer's picture: Jenn RahnJenn Rahn

Selfishness is arguably the worst critique we can get from those around us, especially from those we love. We are taught from such a young age that worrying about ourselves is a ridiculous idea. As we get older-maybe we become parents or have to shut off our concerns because of the job we take, we get further away from the distant relationship we already had. I am here to give you a sign of hope.

Think of a baby, what happens if it doesn’t eat or drink or get a change? It screams, begs for attention, and if bad enough long term… actually develops a failure to thrive. Your infant tendencies live deep in you. Your greatest concern is ensuring you are taken care of, see the mismatch? It is important you take time to make sure YOU are taken care of. Maybe even start asking yourself these 5 questions:

  1. Am I eating and drinking the things I need to be at my best? (amount, quality, etc)

  2. How do I feel in the room I am sleeping in? Is there anything I can change to feel better? (temperature, pillow, bedtime routine, etc)

  3. Am I using my body every day in the way it’s designed to be its best? (exercise, rest, etc)

  4. Are the people around me concerned for my well being? (kind, supportive, safe, etc)

  5. Is my home a place that is safe for my day to day needs and growth? (clean, full of what you need, safe people, etc)

See how the basics of taking care of yourself are rooted in making sure you are a happy healthy human? I have walked through fears of selfishness myself, and at the end of the day when addressing basic needs, the rest appears to follow. Choose you, because in no world is it selfish to make sure you are happy, healthy, and safe along your journey.

What if you choose you & what if it all goes right?
